"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the power and the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, Amen." Ephesians 3:20

Hospital Day 8 - Recovering from surgery

It was a long afternoon yesterday, a long night, and a long morning in the ICU.  Anna fought nausea and vomiting, and they were concerned about her lung sounds.  I was concerned about her comfort level. I don't think they have Anna's pain as well-controlled as we might see in the US.

I keep asking if they can give her something as she doesn't appear to be on any kind of IV drip for pain.  They gave her Tylenol, and were very quick to let me know "the kind without the codeine."  I'm thinking, "bring on the codeine."  Anna has been very fussy and fidgety.  She just can't get comfortable (or happy).

Dr. Carner has been by several times to check on Anna.  An American team also came by this morning.  We talked a long time about how, for children like Anna, this surgery is simply not available in the USA, and we talked about how sad it is that finances are a barrier to treatment for many children.  I thought the doctors were very kind and compassionate, and yet, they know the reality, just as we do.

Yes, that's Anna's brain surgery - live from the operating room!
I was on the front row!

So far, early reports are that Anna and two of the other little ones had responses to all 12 electrodes!  What wonderful news!!!  A testament to prayer!  We are still waiting to hear how the third baby did.

Keep praying for the recovery of the children and the rest of the parents.  From all prior families' reports, it will be a few days until the children round the corner and start feeling better.  Activation of the device is March 25 - we're hopeful that those 12 great responses still look great on March 25th!

  2. I hope the recovery is as quickly for her as it was for my daughter with her cochlear implantation. Children have a strength and fortitude that continues to amaze me and from what I have read your Anna has that in spades!

I am praying for her to have a speedy recovery and for your family as a whole.
