"Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be the power and the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, Amen." Ephesians 3:20

Quick update - no photos!

Sorry - no photos with this update because I'm just too darn tired to wait for them to upload.

Anna's TB was clear - yahoo!  Tomorrow, we have Anna's visa appointment with the American consulate in Guangzhou.  This is our last hurdle to clear before we can travel.  The appointment is tomrrow (Tuesday), and if all goes well, we will be issued Anna's travel documents on Wednesday.  We are scheduled to leave Guanzhou Wednesday night.  We will drive to Hong Kong and spend the night, and we will depart Hong Kong for our long flight on Thursday morning. We arrive in Dallas later Thursday evening and will make it into Lubbock on Friday morning.  Woohoo - we are in the home stretch!

Anna is doing much better.  She now knows how to latch on when being held.  She knows how to give and receive hugs and kisses.  She knows how to hold hands, and tonight, we went out for ice cream, and she was able to sit and eat her treat and then walk back to the hotel without running ahead.  This is huge progress!  Today was the 1-week mark.  I think we will see improvement each day.  She isn't signing much, but we think she still hasn't caught on to what we are trying to show her.

Lucy did great today.  She signed "go," "stop," and "sit" to Anna and taught Anna how to hold her hand.  Even when Anna hit Lucy, which, sadly, happens a lot, Lucy was kind.  Amelia is my director of air traffic, usually too much so.  If she would stop trying to control the younger children, things might be a little easier.  I know she means well, but really, she is a bossy pants!

Please be in prayer for our flight. Anna is not easily occupied or entertained, and 15 hours on the plane has the potential to be real torture for all involved.

Big Burch hugs to everyone!

  2. Uggg....I totally get the control thing with Amelia. Lindsi can be a lot like that. Many times it is welcome, because she helps keep us on track, but sometimes it gets to be too much. Praying for patience for you & a sleepy Anna for the flt home.

  3. You guys are doing an awesome job! I know there are many challenges, but to be seeing her learning these little things already is really encouraging. God has not called you without preparing all of you. I'm grateful for the blessing you all are to each other! Can't wait for you to get home. I'll definitely be praying for that long trip home.
    Hugs!!!

  4. Hi Amy... Sounds like you might have to play musical chairs on the flight home for partial entertainment.
"How's-a-bout-a-bag-o-distractions" (one disclaimer-"no 'bossy pants'"/or people who HAVE to play with THE rules)
    Ideas: cards~match: colors/shapes/numbers/what-ever
    pick-up sticks: on the plane~count/sort by colors/trade
pipe cleaners/twisty thingies: make into all sorts of whatcha-ma-thingies
I hope that maybe in your travels a couple of socks have gotten holes in them. Because: with markers give each girl one: instant hand puppet!!!
extra combs & easy barrettes: beauty shop; on baby dolls, each other, or adults : )
soft slippers: shoe store (This one has to be modeled by the adult, but was one of my granddaughter's favorites even at home with shoes, too. It can continue as the language skills progress incorporating all sorts of learning objectives.)

Ok, I'll be quiet now... my mind is still whirling, but I'm sure your Mom has many more ideas which are much better than mine.
Anna is making amazing progress! Remember just being around family with loving touch is a formidable undertaking for her. Bless Lucy for her extra dose of patience.

    Hugs & Prayers,
    Barbara Lyman :-)
